I realize my love for the royal life during the first half of 1900's more and more as I continue watching Dowton Abbey. Not only are the costumes, well, outfits for them, so much more intricate than what we get to wear, but also, every day seems to be a whole other extravaganza. Don't even get me started about their dinners. My mom does wonderful dinner gathering, which is as close as you can get to theirs I suppose...

The day started with a mellow breakfast, and trying to make sense of the passing away of the greatest, Whitney Houston. Once we realized we can't make sense of the unexplainable, we all went our separate ways. My way, as you might now by now, consisted of watching a movie, Persona by Ingmar Bergman, and writing my six pages. Now that I'm far from being done with that. I'm moving on to baking a cake, and preparing for the Grammys.

I can already hear some of your comments, (including my mom) talking about how I'm not wearing any socks, and you're right. When my friends told me that it felt like summer in New York, I got so excited and only packed five dresses, and one pair of pants. Unfortunately, with my arrival, the warm weather disappeared. So the first thing I did when I arrived was to go and buy some sweaters. When I left the hotel Friday morning, it took me about 12 seconds to realize that I couldn't go out wearing a dress. As for this picture, I only took my scarf and jacket off for two minutes...

Arkadaslarim New York'un cok sicak oldugunu soyleyince ben de yanimda tam olarak bes tane elbise, bir tane de pantalon aldim. Malesef benim New York'a gelisimle sicak havanin gitmesi bir oldu. O yuzden gittigim an kazak alis verisine ciktim. Bu resim icin de ceketimi ve salimi cikarttim, yoksa vallahi daha kalindi uzerim :)

Today I went into a classroom, so sure that it was the right room I was in, told an old friend (who I haven't seen in a while and really enjoyed seeing) that he was in the wrong class, made him leave, only to find out later that a) I wasn't in the right classroom, and b) I wasn't even enrolled in the class that I thought that I had today. That's what happens when you're an aries; you're so sure of everything you're doing that you don't even consider the possibility of being wrong. No wonder not too many people get along with me.

It's a little too soon to be homesick, but constantly getting pictures of the cutest twins is not helping me. It's also extremely cold in my apartment. I also already missed having home-cooked meals. And can I just mention being able to rest as much as I wanted? Let's not forget the snow. Also school started, and it's my last semester, and I don't want it to end. Wait, I'm getting confused about wanting to be home, or wanting to be here.

When I went a little crazy on my last day in Istanbul at Beymen, it was one of those few times that I actually needed every thing that I purchased, and I know that I'll be wearing every single piece. Plus most of it was on sale ;) And that's exactly how shopping should be done if you ask me; you need to buy things that you need, and a few pieces to spoil yourself, et voila! You got yourself a perfect wardrobe!

Ps. Don't overlook your friend's (guy/girl) closets. I've had my eye on this vest of NS' for over four years, and I finally got a chance to snatch it from him :)

Had an Oscar overload for the past few days. As I always do, with the release of the nominee list of the Oscars, I start watching all the movies that I can that are on the list. I started with "Midnight in Paris," moved along to "Moneyball," and today, watched both "The Descendants" and "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close." Since leaving the movie theatre, I have reached my tear limit of the day, if not of the week. Thankfully I have friends coming over for some Taboo and beer...!

When my niece was born a couple of years ago, I was upset to have missed such an important event. However, the newest two additions to out family turned out to be more considerate, and decided to come to the world a couple hours before I left for San Francisco. Ali & Nil, my cousins beautiful kids, welcome to the world. And thanks for giving me the chance to see your precious faces before leaving. I will always be there for you, for the rest of your lives.

On another note, this is the last post from Paris. This skirt was the first thing I fell in love with when I went to meet Aysegul & Yasemin. And of course, it traveled with me over the Atlantic.

When I said I was in Paris, I wasn't entirely correct. I spent my first 24+ hours a little outside of the city, in a chateau called "Chateau D'Esclimont." As you can imagine, as much as for my knowledge, trip was great for my outfit posts :) These pictures are from Perre Abbe, which is another chateau that we got to visit.

As for the dress, if you follow me on twitter, you know my new found friendship with the girls of Mybestfriends/Moda Tutkusu, Aysegul and Yasemin. When we finally got a chance to meet last week, we bonded so much over red wine that they decided that they wanted to give me a few of their clothes for my Paris trip. This blue dream is one of them. I adored the simplicity and the color of the dress, with the back and side details. Stay tuned, they have much more in store...!

Gecen hafta ilk kez tanistiginda sarap esliginde konusurken o kadar guzel anlastik ki, bana yaz sezonlarindan birkac Paris icin kiyafet hazirlamaya karar verdiler. Bu birkac kiyafetten biri. Snow, to me, is the perfect set up of any fairy tale. Everything so surreal, and quiet. It also connects me to my childhood, (sorry for sounding like a 86-year-old) because I get so excited for something so small. Remember when a slightly white ground would make your week? Or how you would beg your mother to let you go out and promise her that you wouldn't get sick because of playing with snow? I do. And I don't ever want to let that feeling go away. I want to be a child forever, stuck in a white fairy tale...

Spent the whole night surfing the internet. I really miss warmer days, hence all these summer inspired outfits. Also, I hate having to explain myself, but I received so many emails, complaining about my choices of brands when I do my "Creations." These clothes are clothes women would kill to have, including me. So when I pick them, I try to put together the ultimate outfit, so that all of us can find similar clothes, and achieve the same look. Get it?

I've been gathering my thoughts for the past couple of days to decide on what to write as a first entry of 2012. Then I realized it's been right in front of my face; love. Yea yea, roll your eyes and scroll down as much as you want, it's happening.

I got sick friday night. And not a runny nose and raspy voice sick, running a high fever of 39.3 (102) sick. With my mom and step father being out of the city and my father living a little far from where we live, I called one of my closest friends, and he was here with medicine within half an hour. It turned into an even longer night when I called my older brother and his lovely wife (she is not just the most stylish 30 year old, she is an amazing mom, and an amazing sister to me) due to feeling on fire. Literally. They were here with everything they could bring to cure me at 3 am. It was a couple hours of ice, tea with cognac, and soup therapy.

Saturday, I woke up with the same feeling of fire, alone in my house. My mom, having the power to rule the world on her phone, arranged for me to get a shot to help my fever go down. After resting for less than half an hour, I opened my eyes to my favorite man, my dad. What an amazing feeling to know that you have someone in your life who will always show up, no matter what you need him for. After shedding a few tears because of the overwhelming feeling of having his support, I closed my eyes to rest once again.

Then comes my other friends. A few angels I have flying around me to bring me flowers, make me laugh, buy me even more medicine, and watch me get a shot on my left buttock, again. I also haven't texted this much ever in my life. Who would have known words could be more powerful than medicine?

Last but not least, comes my other brother, mother, and my step father. Taking things to his hands right where my friends left off, my other brother (which he hates being called :) ) was by my side on the last few hours of the year instead of being with his friends and girlfriend - until I heard my mom's foot steps echoing in the empty house around 10 pm, 12/31/11, instead of vacationing. Just as my father's easygoing manner does, my mom's unexplainable confidence in being able to fix her daughter, me, brought tears to my eyes.

12:00 am? Connected to an IV, my hand in my mom's, having my step father walk in and out of the room, worried, and hearing my phone ring over and over again: my father, my brothers, my friends, worried.

Having a pretty high fever is not the deadliest thing in the world, I just have a very dramatic way of writing :) But even in that situation, I had so much love sent my way, that it made me feel like I was going through the hardest thing, and that I would get over it in the fastest way possible.

So, in my first post, more than anything, I wish family, friends, and love to all of you for 2012. Lucky me, I have all that I need.

It was a couple of weeks ago when I received an email from Onder Ozkan. We arranged for a time and place for us to meet, which happened to be today, at his studio. For those of you who don't know Onder, he is a Turkish designer with a great work background, and an obsession with prints :) I got to visit his studio and see his newest collection, (you will get to see some of his pieces for yourselves at Vakko in the upcoming season) but more than that, we had a chance to talk designers, documentaries, fashion weeks, projects, and everything fabulous! I wanted to share my two favorite pieces of his with you too, you know, in case anyone is thinking of getting me a New Year's gift :)

Birkac hafta once Onder Ozkan'dan bir email almistim. Bilmeyenler icin soylemeden edemeyecegim, Onder baski ve desenlere hayran, sahane egitim ve deneyimi olan Turk bir designer. Biraz konustuktan sonra tanismak icin yer ve zaman olarak bu gunu sectik. Oglen gidip studyosunu, ve Vakko'da bazi parcalarin satilacagi yeni koleksyonunu gorme firsatim oldu. Kiyafetleri gormenin yani sira moda, tasarimcilar, belgeseller, kitaplar, moda haftalari ve projelerimiz hakkinda bol bol dedikodu yaptik! En sevdigim iki parcasini da sizle paylasmak istedim, hani belki bana hediye arayaniniz vardir :)

A little over two years ago, when I first started blogging, I didn't know there was a "blogging community." I don't even remember how I came across Karla's Closet, but I remember looking at it at my boyfriend's dorm room from the very first post until the end. Once again, our styles don't really match completely, however, if I was a vintage lover, I would want to shop with no one else, but her.

This time of year is all about traditions to me. Last year, I featured five of my favorite blogs, and my five favorite outfits that they wore on the last five days of 2010. I've been meaning to write about the blogger meeting we had with a bunch of great bloggers from Turkey right after I came back. Ibrahim from BenModa, which I told you about a while ago, had arranged a great little get together for us. I dragged NS with me - because you know, I love to drag him anywhere I can when I'm in Istanbul - but I did the worst "no-no" of a blogger, which is to forget your camera. But all the pictures are up on BenModa, since not all bloggers travelled half the world the night before, and was a little careless.

Needless to say, these pictures are not from that day, they're from yesterday...

Gecen cumartesiden beri BenModa'dan sevgili Ibrahim'in duzenledigi blogger birlikteligini yazmayi dusunuyordum, ama bir turlu yazamadim. Bizim birbirimizi tanimamiz icin cok guzel ufak bir davetti. San Francisco'da olmanin sayili dezavantajindan biri de Turk bloglari cok iyi bilmemek, o yuzden galba en cok bana yardimci olan bir duzenlemeydi. NS'i de yanimda getirdim tabi, ama fotograf makinesi getirmeyi unuttum. Allahtan tum reismler BenModa'da toplanmis. Tabi herkes benim gibi bir onceki gunu Okyanus uzerinden ucmadigi icin hicbiri unutkan degildi. Nice bulusmalara diyorum...

Coming back home is all about family and loved ones for me. I haven't been able to write too much, considering all I surrounded myself with for the past 48 hours was family, and my closest friends. A little bit of mom's hospitality, my older brother and sister in law's sunday=fun day mentality, a little bit of my dad's "3 year old"ness, with NS' perfect, loooong conversaitons, my other brother's charm, and with the great friendships that I have with people, I've been a little too occupied...

Istanbul'a geri donmek benim icin ailem ve arkadaslarimla vakit gecirmekten ibaret. Son 48 saattir dort aydir gormedigim herkesi gunume sigdirmaya calistigim icin birazcik doluydum, o yuzden yazilarimi bosladim. Simdi bir de uyku duzenim yerin gelince benden daha uzun postlar gorebilirsiniz...
